TASK 3 - Due 26th November

Generate ideas for your own iPad magazine

You will use original imagery, illustration and your own design work to create your own magazine which will include:

  • A front cover
  • 4 articles/ minimum images 6 
  • 1 advert - Flash Banner
  • 4 page magazine
In order to achieve this you need to complete the following development work:

1. Brainstorm possible ideas about what your magazine could be about
2. Choose two of these ideas and create a moodboard for each (this should visually convey the mood, colour, style of your initial idea)
3. Pick your final idea and now start to document (through print screens) and develop the following:
  • Name and masthead designs (minimum 3 trials) - the title of your magazine, think about font, size, colour, shape, layout, etc.
  • Fonts and colour palette (minimum 3 trials) - trial and develop ideas and make
  • decisions to enable consistency of design
  • Imagery - are you using illustrations? Photography? Vector based imagery?  Start
  • developing these ideas, take some photos, start some drawings etc.
  • Layout ideas and trials for each article and the advert - this could be sketches, mock
  • ups and can use found imagery at this point
  • Page furniture (minimum 2 trials)- what are you going to include and use to aid
  • navigation and social media?

Use www.joomag.com to upload your magazine, once you have created a mock up on InDesign.  

Create a mock magazine - using Photoshop

1. Front Cover - include a main image, masthead (title) and any other information.
2. Three page article, include found images.
3. Add interactivity, using Joomag

TASK 2 - Due 17th November

iPad magazine workshop

Document through annotated print screens the following InDesign trial:

1. Create an Adobe ID by visiting https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com

2. Create a mock up (a rough trial) of a digital magazine consisting of a front cover and a three-page article (use dummy text), using a minimum of four found images - create both the vertical and horizontal files for an iPad using 1024x768 and make sure you name your files correctly

3. Print screen and document your digital magazine development onto your blog

4. Add a minimum of three elements of interactivity

5. Preview your interactive elements using Adobe Content Viewer

6. Develop your mock-up, refine your interactive elements and continue to preview your design

7. Reflect upon this trial process – what has this process taught you? Think about technical and creative skills, workflow and organisation. What are your own hints and tips that you need to remember when planning, designing and creating your own digital magazine? (approx 300 words)

8. Screen record your digital magazine embed the video of your magazine on your blog
